The Department of Statistics was initiated in 1988 at the then Hajee Mohammad Danesh Agricultural College (HMDAC) by Professor Md. Siddiqur Rahman, who was the first Head of the Department. From the very beginning the department has serve teaching and research in statistics for different discipline Then the college was upgraded to the status of a university renaming it as Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University on 8 April 2002. The department offers B.Sc. Honours, M.S, M. Phil and Ph. D, degrees in Statistics.
The research areas include- Demography, Population & Health, Social Statistics and Ageing, Multivariate Analysis, Econometrics and Time Series Modeling, Reliability, Bio-Statistics, Educational Statistics and Inference, Bayesian Inference, Stochastic Modeling, Probability, Survey Sampling, Applied Statistics, Anthropometric Study, Environmental Studies, Statistical Data Mining, Bootstrap in Time Series, Simulation Modeling, Regression Diagnostics, Multinomial Distribution, Order Statistics, Computer Programming, Robust Statistics, Non-linear Programming, Mathematical Statistics, Statistical learning, Human Growth, Linear Programming and Quality Control, Human Morphology, Reliability, Bio-Statistics, Computer Programming, Statistical Genetics and Bioinformatics, Statistical Signal Processing, Statistical Modeling of Climatic variables, Macroeconomics, Financial Statistics, Optimization, Robust Statistics, Biomedical Statistics.
